spasm
this morning, i glanced nonchalantly at a few pages of a magazine. one of them, i noticed, had the word "christmas" printed on it. before i could take stock of the situation, i had, in an act of compulsion, an unplanned neurological short-cut, slapped the magazine down on the table and said "hee-ea-enk..gahhh!"

do i have a problem-
if so what is it-
stickitodamanitis?

happy hunting
seemed an appropriate thing to say at the time.

there have been two news stories recently about tight margins in election victories. i wonder if marginal victories are actually quite common and landslides are the exception.

sounds of the underground
it is the volcanologist who attempts to predict location, time, and nature of eruptions, often travelling to witness the event and taking atmospheric and geological readings enabling them to record fact after fact, pre-, during, and post-eruption. erupting volcanoes have both an immediate and lasting effect on their surroundings. the ratio of gas to rock is critical in defining the spread and speed of lava flow as are the sizes of material ejected. volcanoes are categorisable depending on factors such as shape, frequency of activity, and geographical reformation.

some more words: restless >> release >> hot rocks >> bursting >> local transformation >> cooling to form new land >> unusual appearance to the uninitiated >> fertile ground

there are thought to be a handful of volcanoes which are capable of producing an erupitve impact of global proportions. they have access to a vast amount of magmatic material and the time between eruptions is extremely long. yellowstone park is one of these as it sits on top of a moving lake of magma, and the estimated next eruption from this supervolcano is long overdue.

in my opinion, when something like that has been playing catchup for 40,000 years, people should get ready. burble, bubble, splutter boink, fflflflflflflflfl, guggle-flooo... plah, pop, ¬`fffffffllooooooooshhhhhhhh!

4wot it's worth
hmm i was in the local superstore feeling a bit eugh as you can do considering the typical superstore ambiance, being slowly pummeled into that state of mind where you start scanning the shelves for something to lift the temporary and induced depression you are feeling. then as if by magic over the speaker system the usual rotation of tat sap pop was interrupted by the gloriousness of the cardigans. yes, i am saved, i thought. come and lift me out of this old spiders web of dusty fluff. and it was working! happier and lighter times were emerging! only about 10 seconds in there was a break so that the store manager could tell me about some amazing bargain i didnt want or how i could save money by spending more of it. EUGH, you URGS.

but it was ok, they were back again, if only for two minutes.

my internal jukebox has settled on sigur ros, could be my brain's way of self medicating. not bad, brain, not bad.

anguiiish
yesterday i found out about a guy i used to know. i even lived in the same house as him around five years ago. anyway last month he got sent down for 12 years. and yes, he did it.

so i've thought about why it happened, it happening, and it having happened. i've read the newspaper reports and matched them up with the guy i knew. and i've tried to work out what was going on in his head during and after. which isn't that hard. my head is ARGH. i might be arriving at the sarky at god stage, even though i know it does no good. but it's the stage it is.

for lunch i got some yoghurt, some currant buns, almond cake, and iced fingers. as long as i don't develop a comfort eating habit it'll be ok.

maybe i'm at the brain involuntarily making inappropriate jokes stage.

shinned
on saturday i was shinned by a shin-high metal post which had no reason to exist other than to shin people.

on sunday i saw a man walking around a public toilet unaware of the ream of toilet paper attached to the sole of his right shoe.

today i am mostly wearing borrowed t-shirts and eating yoghurt with forks. i wonder what kind of sound plastic forks make when you plick them off the edges of desks. i wonder if there's a science to it.

super sub
and what's this? the manager's bringing a new player onto the pitch.
-who is it alan, can you see who's already warming up?
well jon you're not going to believe this but it looks like the number 7 is coming straight off the bench
-not even a warm up alan?
no jon, well.. wait.. yes, a flick of the right ankle there, a glance at the boots, but apart from there he's hardly taken off his tracksuit and he's there.. creating space down the flank and he's straight into the fray there, lining up a wicked one-two
-my goodness alan after only a wee pause for thought he's in there, you can see the emotion in his eyes, the crowed have really got him fired up, and he seems to be reading this game like a master, and its a wonderful display of vision as he takes the ball into the box, a shifty shuffle, drops the left shoulder.. i can scarcely believe this alan, already he's shaping up for a shot, from that crazy angle
but he crosses it in majestically - leaving him unmarked again, moving quickly now inside the area, the ball passed around four of his teammates in a crowded manouvre of sheer mentalism, confounding the opposition, then back to him as he runs onto it with tremendous speed
-and he powers it into the back of the net! what a screamer! out of nowhere! surely that seals it, alan?
now that was an inspired substitution, barely two minutes on the pitch and Lenny scores again. we can scarcely see him now, his team mates have run over and bundled him into a mass pile-on, ah, there he is, weeping gently and grinning from the bottom of the human hillock
